My experience with the thin glue is that it tends to get everywhere, often inside the tubes as well.

I now only use the thickest CA that I can find. The one I am using at present also seems to have a reasonable 'set' time so you can rotate the tube nicely to spread the glue evenly on the tube.

So far this has worked for me and I will continue until I have problems.

Cheers

Rob

How much of the blank are you trimming away? If it more than a few mms then the trimmer does tend to get warm, but I have done a fair amount of acrylic pens and have never had a problem(yet!)

I made a jig to fit my bandsaw so the blanks are only 1-2mm longer than the tubes, for the 7mm tubes I use a hand trimmer as I find it is better than the drill press mounted ones.

Also what glue are you using and how long are you waiting before trimming ?

I know a friend who has recently had problems with CA glue after using it for years and he has now gone back to epoxy. I must be lucky as I have never had a problem (yet!)with using CA to glue the tubes.

Hope you come right soon, just don't give up Very Happy

Cheers

Rob

Shooting from the hip here, but have you checked for any of these:

1. The glue did not cure
2. The Brass tube was not roughened up
3. The trimmer pen mill got caught and it ripped the brass tube off the blank

If the problem persists, I'm close so I can come over on a Saturday morning and check out what you are doing...

Regards
Dieter

HI there

Tonight I tried to make a acrylic pen and hmm it seems that once I have cut the blank in 2 then mark it for the centre then i drill the hole for the brass tubes and then glue the brass tubes in to the blanks , when I start to use my barrel trimmer to trim both ends to the brass tube it just heats up and the brass tubes fall out.

what am I doing wrong here ?
