You can put a oil based finish on but the wood gets dirty quick. If you want a nice gloss on any wood, super glue is the one to use.

There is a lot of U tube video's on applying cyanoacrylate but you have to start of with the thin stuff. After a few coats apply a few coats of medium S/G. I sand is back with normal water paper with a 2000 grid and then polish with plastic polish. a Good one is Turtle scratch remover.

Sorry I forgot to mention that if you use BLO as an activator be careful, the cloth that you use to apply it with, can spontaneous ignite

Hi

I saw at the IAP that they use the spray and some type of oil. I could not get the spray in Secunda. My wife had some teak oil in the house she used for the furniture and I tried this as a hardener and it work. After some failures - white spots and stripes on the wood. I did used the method on the Majestic fountain pen I made. Must say I tried it first on a JR Gentleman fountain pen to make sure I get it right. It did come out very good and smooth with a good shine.

I have a small knife factory which is based inside my larger steel factory.
My wood stock is kept there.
It will be best to come during normal working hours and preferebly in the morning.Just let me know before you come.
Alternatively if you plan to come after hours, I can take a few logs home, no problem.

That offer for the wild olive is good. I will have to make a plan to collect it.

Regards

As a matter of interest, I have a large stock of wild olive. If you happen to pass by Vereeniging you are welcome to help yourself to a few logs. It wil also be a good idea to see how the CA is applied.

The products name is "JOINERS MATE". It is a made by "Geocel" and is stocked locally by ABE.
If I remember correct they are at Mainreef road no 101. Best to google them and check stock in advance.
There is quite a trick in the application. Be weary!! I watched several demo's on youtube before I tried it, and it stil took some time (and a lot of buggerups) before I mastered it.
During next week I shall send a few photos of some of my pens ( I need my kids to show me how to upload it)

Sorry, I did not explain correct.
You apply the "super glue" and then spray the aerosol over it which then acts as a hardener

what you need is a "C A" finish. The instructions are well documented on youtube.
It is a "super glue" with an aerosol spray accelerator.
I can supply you with contact detail where to buy it .
